Anyone know how I can watch this without a Sky account?

Re: The Chernobyl Diaries
Isnt this the highest ever rated show on rotten tomatoes or imdb or something?

Put it this way, I very rarely watch dramas as I frankly cant be bothered, but even I thought this was outstanding. Maybe it was helped by the fact that it was based on real life made it better, but you cant fault the acting or direction.

The scene on the roof was brilliantly shot

I think he was traumatised by the hospital scenes.

I really have no idea what you are going on about.

Anyway, this 'show' would probably be more suited to Nat Geo or the like, rather than 'entertainment' on HBO.

Didn't Bruce Banner become The Hulk after too much radiation exposure? If you go, be careful out there.

I am assuming that Marvel Comics are the last word in scientific accuracy

Last but one, Sid, just above the Trump administration...!

I think, for many (me included), it makes it more "real". I know it's real, I know the story, I've been there - but to see it 'happen' makes it infinitely more interesting.

Plus even though I knew the story and had discussed it with various Ukrainians. I had no idea just how bad the episode really was. The accompanying podcast is well worth listening to as well, because the creator of the programme explains just how factual the whole thing is.

Re: The Chernobyl Diaries
Sure, all I'm saying is that if a show is about a real event it always gives you a head start unless you really fuck it up. I suppose if you watch it as a documentary type then okay, but it's HBO so you think of entertainment and for me I'm not rushing to watch the next episode.

bit of a weird comment.

We're not living in the land of what if's are we, it's rightly getting good reviews as it portrays the horrific event very well.

Re: The Chernobyl Diaries
Let's be honest the only reason this is getting big write up's and being praised all over is because it was a real life event, and okay the acting is good, etc. If this was fiction, it would just be okay as far as shows go with way better out there.

Same as the film Dunkirk that everyone went bonkers over, if it hadn't actually happened it would have just been passed off as an okay film.

Carry on wetting your knickers though..

Re: The Chernobyl Diaries
The best bit was the court case and the detailed explanation of what actually happened ... Xenon gas etc. One of the scenes that got me was the eerie bit showing the reactor going mental and the boron rods jumping up and down with the imminent sound of a catastrophic explosion.

I always find faults in TV shows but this had me hooked as it was really well done and acted throughout

Still have Pripyat tours on my bucket list with a trip to Kiev however not sure I actually have the bottle to do it even with assurances of safety.

Re: The Chernobyl Diaries
Just watched the last episode.A brilliant drama/thriller up there with the best(sapronos/wire/ band of brothers)but not really comparable given the subject significance.
Officially 31 died. ??
The true figures of casualties are much more. We're probably never know the the whole truth.
From what I've heard since the catastrophe which really happened. It was only a day or two away from whiping out a third of Europe. The spread of radiation may have not stopped in southern europe
A Highly reccommended watch.
